St. Nicholas Day is not just a tradition, but an important part of our cultural heritage. It reflects our values, moral guidelines and great love for children. According to Ukrainian tradition, St. Nicholas brings gifts to polite children, and leaves a coal to those who misbehaved. All the children in our spaces are, of course, docile and kind, so this year St. Nicholas himself visited them accompanied by an angel.

On December 6th and 9th, celebrations were held in the children’s spaces of Derhachi, Bezruky and Savyntsi in honor of St. Nicholas Day and more than 200 children participated in them.

In Bezruky and Savyntsi, St. Nicholas visited the little ones together with an angel to give them joy and a feeling of a real holiday. In Derhachi, the festive atmosphere was created by the artists of the Kharkiv State Academic Puppet Theater, who presented the interactive performance “What Happened to the Fawn?” This tale of mercy and kindness came to life on stage, and children had the opportunity to see how important it is to be compassionate towards each other.

The holiday was not limited to entertainment only. After the performances and animations, children participated in creative workshops where they learned how to create holiday crafts. In Savyntsi and Derhachi, teachers helped children make holiday gifts, and in Bezruky, a craftswoman taught kids how to create traditional Ukrainian angels from straw, which added special authenticity to the holiday.

We are thankful to all our partners who provided the opportunity to create this celebration and continue to support our children’s projects.
