Safe Ukrainian childhood
The project is aimed at creating safe children’s spaces in the Kharkiv region.
At the moment, 10 spaces for children are successfully functioning in settlements of the Kharkiv region, namely: Derhachi, Savyntsi, Bezruky, Slatyne and Novopokrovka.
The Goal of the Project
Socialize them in time of war time and psychological rehabilitation by creating conditions for leisure and learning.
With more than three years of distance learning and a full-scale invasion, children need to have live interaction with their peers as well as various extracurricular activities.
We create spaces of free thoughts for happy children!
Implementation:
These spaces are designed for children aged from 4 to 17 years old. The spaces are usually open on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. However, educators can independently create schedules and invite children to weekend activities. Parents can leave their children for several hours, during which they will spend time surrounded by peers and teachers. These spaces also host master classes on various topics initiated both by the CODEIT4LIFE UKRAINE team and by representatives of the communities in which the spaces operate. There are music and art therapy classes, acting workshops, parties for teenagers, film screenings, holiday events, education catch-up classes, and an English Speaking Club with native speakers. Derhachi has a sports-oriented space that allows children to practice dancing, football, and martial arts. The 9th space, opened in September 2025, consists of a space for learning and work of art groups organized by community educators. The 10th one, opened in November 2025 in Novopokrovka, is the largest space and contains a lounge area, an anti-library, a stage, and a media studio for developing the creative abilities of children and adolescents in the community.
What has been achieved in more than 2 years of this project implementation:
- - 10 spaces have already been opened;
- - More than 31000 visits of the spaces;
- - More than 2500 events organized;
- - 77 benefactors were involved in supporting the project;
- - The Inclusive Resource Center “Without Borders” resumed its work;
- - A unique safe sensory room was created in the region.
In addition to the spaces for children’s leisure, these rooms are used as a safe place for community events, such as graduations and “last bell” ceremonies. Spaces can be used as “Points of Invincibility”. We are glad that the room is becoming a universal tool in the hands of respective communities.
The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Departments of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports of Savyntsi, Novopokrovka and Derhachi communities.
We plan to expand the network of safe-spaces in populated areas of the Kharkiv region.
