"No Limits". Inclusive resource center in Derhachi
As part of the “Safe Ukrainian Childhood” project, the premises of the Inclusive Resource Center “No Limits” in Derhachi have been rebuilt and work has been resumed.
In March 2022, as a result of enemy shelling, the premises of the IRC "No Limits" in Derhachi were destroyed. Part of the equipment was preserved. For two years, the Center's specialists worked online, but many children needed offline meetings for effective corrective work.
The Center has 227 people with special educational needs, 33 of which are children who study online in inclusive classes and only 8 children have the opportunity to attend classes online with specialists of the IRC, which does not satisfy the need for correctional services at all.
The goal of the project
The goal of the project is to support children with special educational needs, to provide them with stable access to quality correctional services and a safe space for development and learning. Restoration of the premises of the inclusive resource center is a key step on the way to creating a comfortable environment where every child can realize their potential and feel supported even during wartime. And comprehensive support of the Center’s activities from the foundation provides the specialists of IRC with opportunities for uninterrupted work.
Implementation
As part of the project, emergency restoration works were carried out, which included major repairs of two rooms in the basement. A new flooring was created, starting from the development of the soil inside the building and to pouring concrete and finishing works. The walls are repaired: insulation, frames setup, sheathing with plasterboard and slopes finishing. The ceiling is cleaned, leveled and painted. New doors, moldings, and skirting boards were installed. Electrical work has been carried out, lights and fans have been installed. The separate exit from the basement has also been renovated, including brickwork, installation of metal doors and installation of a roof over the entrance. The renovation of the Inclusive Resource Center was implemented by Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation within the framework of the supporting Ukraine from the Swiss side and financed by Swiss Solidarity. We are also sincerely grateful to Derhachi City Council for co-financing the project.
Various educational toys and equipment were provided to ensure the full operating work of the center and support of the educational process. Among this equipment: a touch tablet for sand animation, developmental games on velcro, a wooden kitchen, toy dishes, finger paints and plasticine, musical instruments, gymnastic cones and sticks, massagers for developing fine motor skills. These tools will contribute to the growth of children's cognitive, sensory and social skills, improving their adaptation and self-expression in the form of play.
The foundation team continues to provide the children and teachers of the "No Limits" Inclusive Resource Center with the necessary materials and equipment on an ongoing basis.
