When it comes to saving a wounded soldier on the battlefield, every minute counts—especially during the critical “window” between evacuation and the operating room. Our project to procure SAROS-3000 tactical oxygen concentrators was launched on April 22, 2025. As of today, we have tangible results to share: an honest look at the journey of this equipment across oceans, the challenges of maintenance, and, most importantly, the first lives saved on the front lines.
What is a Tactical Oxygen Concentrator?
A standard oxygen cylinder is heavy, limited in volume, and requires constant refilling. The SAROS-3000 works differently. It is a compact device weighing just over 4 kg that pulls surrounding air and continuously extracts pure oxygen from it. It is built to withstand dust, moisture, and vibration, making it possible to use directly during transport while evacuating the wounded.
Why is This Critically Important?
In cases of severe chest wounds, massive blood loss, or respiratory failure, the body desperately needs support. Oxygen becomes the deciding factor in whether a soldier survives the journey to the hospital. We already have video feedback from the field showing how the SAROS helped stabilize a soldier’s oxygen saturation, saving his life and ensuring he could recover after reaching medical facilities.
How We Made It Happen: Logistics and Testing
This project was a true logistical quest. We found five SAROS units in Japan offering savings of over $1,000 compared with prices in Ukraine. Their journey to Ukraine was long: first by sea to America, and then finally to us.
Where Are the “Saros” Units Now?
To date, we have distributed four devices:
- Three units were delivered to the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade (2nd Mechanized Battalion). Two are active on medevac vehicles, and one is being used for training medics and soldiers.
- One unit was delivered to the medevac team of the “K2” 20th Separate Drone Brigade.
Every project like this is a path of trial and error. Но when we see a device bought on the other side of the world helping a wounded soldier breathe in a Ukrainian evacuation vehicle, we know it is worth it.
